"Blackbeard's Revenge and Why"
"You foolishly search for Silver and Gold, But "Blackbeard" never took such Toll; was Medicine, Clothes and Food the Take, ill, Hungry Children, Women, the Lowly, Poor German Palatines lay in wait.
You May Hoist the decaying Lady, "Queen Anne's Revenge", high and dry, scour the scraps till wild Crows scream nigh; Decay of Time will be your find within her scraps, Aha, man plundering the dead remains at sea rest, sigh.
Their duties complete, Blackbeard, Loyal Crew and Mates forever gone, paid the due to God for all their sinful wrong; but in our memories they shall ever remain gracious, compassionate deeds of love and generosity for all those first came, and "Amongst The First To Our Shore".

Yes, we have a story to tell you about the Pirate, John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch). John Edward Titschke really was North Carolina's notorious Blackbeard who arrived in the New Country with De Graffenreid's German and Swiss Colony who settled our grand old town, June, 1710. Most of the original settlers were German Palatines, the Swiss Palatines arrived later that year making the voyage with Baronet Christopher Von De Graffenreid and his associate Ludwig Michel. De Graffenreid and Michel were partners and share holders in the George Ritter Company, a Partnership formed to transport and provide necessities for De Graffenreid's New Bern Colony in the New Country.
Needless to say, many wild stories about Blackbeard, John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch) have been told and retold for centuries about North Carolina's Notorious Pirate, but most of those stories you have heard over the years are only folklore myths being passed from generation to generation. This is the true story about the notorious North Carolina Pirate, Blackbeard. It is for certain and without equivocation, with facts taken from our history, we have confirmed the Pirate was a native New Bernian who arrived in the New Country with the first group of German Refugees that made up the original De Graffenreid New Bern Colony, enumerated in the records of England and early Craven County, North Carolina. The Pirate Titschke (Teache, Thatch) was Richard Hearne's Seventh Great Grandfather...... and from my data base, he just may be related to you!! Richard V. & Alice C. Hearne/2001

"John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch) was an original New Bernian who arrived in the New Country with Baron De Graffenreid's first group of settlers which consisted entirely of German Palatines who arrived in New Bern, June,1710. John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch) was the "Robin Hood" for De Graffenreid's abandoned New Bern German and Swiss Palatine Colony from which New Bern, North Carolina evolved. After the close of the Indian war, about 1713-14, the German Palatine people were left scattered all over Eastern North Carolina. ......Many of the Pirates Titschke's family survived their cruel treatment in the New Country and live in North Carolina ...... and all over our nation. John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch) arrived in the new country with the first group of German Palatines escorted by John Lawson. John Lawson later became the Surveyor General for the New Bern Colony of Palatines. Truly an interesting fact about New Bern's Historic Heritage and the mostly unknown part of the Town's rich legacy. We have enjoyed the research and writing we recently concluded about Blackbeard, John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch) and Baron Von De-Graffenreid's founding of New Bern, North Carolina. We want to share with you some of our story about New Bern's Pirates and Politicians. .......The following are passages from our writings about Titschke (Teache, Thatch) the Pirate and the founding history of New Bern...... and De-Graffenreid's historic venture that lead to the settlement of New Bern, in 1710. The Politicians took everything the pirate's people (the Palatines) had, the Pirate John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch), Blackbeard did his best to get it back for them and sustain their lives in the New Country. We want you to know the relationship between Blackbeard's Flagship's emblematic name, "Queen Anne's Revenge", and the true history of New Bern, North Carolina. We should never forget our humble beginnings, nor the forefathers who endured the vicious hatred. Yet, courageously, they endured till the end steadfastly, continuing to build the hallowed paths which we tread upon, finding the freedoms we have available and enjoy today. Why was Titschke's prized flagship named "Queen Anne's Revenge? Was the naming of the Flagship a symbolic statement to Queen Anne about the plight of the German Palatines who founded New Bern, North Carolina. Will John Edward Titschke (Teache, Thatch), North Carolina's Blackbeard, ever be hailed and fondly saluted, although belated and without fanfare, as the first to recognize and disseminate the provenance of a great societal democracy? Will historians recognize Blackbeard, although not a politician by tenure, but as such, you know, the first and finest democrat to ever grace the sandy beaches of North Carolina and be welcomed here truly as a great Tar Heel and "AMONGST THE FIRST TO OUR SHORE". .... Why hide the politician's shamefulness in history, the truth is too real and well documented in the archives, requiring no imagination to discern the right from the wrong recording of the historic past chronicles of New Bern.... The German Palatines were cordially received into the bosom of England by the gracious, and compassionate QUEEN ANNE........... Titschke's most prized possession was his beloved Flagship, "Queen Anne's Revenge". History has recorded the flagship was a gift to Titschke by a retiring pirate who desired clemency from his piracy deeds. The vessel was known by the name "Revenge", and Titschke modified the sloops name by adding an appropriate prefix: "Queen Anne's" which represented the anguished plight of the German Palatine people and that is how the Lady, "Queen Anne's Revenge", begot her renowned historic name. Titschke's (Teach, Thatch) favorite anchorage hide-away was located just west of Ocracoke Inlet, a place known as "Titschke's Hole" "Thatch's Hole" on Moseley Map. It was from this location, Titschke launched most of his merciful missions....... The identity of the German Prince was simple to define once we accepted the unguarded facts and simple realities that surrounded the notable events in New Bern's history. De-Graffenreid's German Colony, hidden, but not too well and "Built So Good" a few German Palatines survived to tell the story. Some of the Palatines', both Swiss and German, footprints lead straight to our very own door steps........... Blackbeard was not the perverted character historians have portrayed.........he was also a good and loving person as well as being the very best pirate associated with North Carolina's history with optimum cause....... Blackbeard took it upon himself to see that the needs of the German and Swiss Palatine people were fulfilled in their hour of crisis. Blackbeard chose to reveal to the entire world the profound, cruel, and provocative circumstances with which the German and Swiss Palatines were faced in the New Country. Blackbeard chose to become a Pirate, not a Politician, for that we should all be thankful. ......... Even before the nation was born; Blackbeard's grandchildren, Lieutenant Daniel Tetchey (Teache), Jr., Private Daniel Tetchey (Teache) Boney, Corporal James Wimbark Boney, Private John Boney and Private Wimbrick Boney helped getting the Colonies off their scared and skinny knees. Steadying the rising Lady's stance to her wobbling legs. Standing her upright, excited that the Province would be represented by one of the original thirteen stars and stripes represented in the colors she would bear. They were proudly part of those giving her strength to bear her own colors; they knew her as "Old Betsy", "Lady Bess" as well as "Old Glory" ............ Remember Blackbeard's legacy and what it represented to us: "THE SURVIVAL OF A REPUBLIC'S DEMOCRACY IS WHOLLY DEPENDENT UPON THE DILIGENCE OF THOSE WHOM SHALL INHERIT HER DESTINY". Prepare yourself, the time will soon come when you shall be .......... The research has proven without doubts "Queen Anne's Revenge" is representing an emblematic story from Blackbeard, to the Mighty Queen Anne of England, who had received John Edward Titschke (Teache, Teachie Tet-chee,Teachey and Thatch), Blackbeard, with many other native New Bernians into the bosom of England, from Rotterdam in the Netherlands, June 2, 1709. ......... The Lady's name represented the deeds and sad tales of this writing. The Lady, "Queen Anne's Revenge", was the pentacle of Titschke's (Teach, Thatch) satisfaction and his many successes, but it is, also, an emblematic story about the miserable plight of the German Palatine people who settled New Bern in 1710. ................... It, also, appears Titschke (Teache, Thatch) wasn't saying thank you to the gracious Lady, Queen Anne, and with the complete story having now been told, we can appreciate the reason why not. ........... Baron De-Graffenreid described in his memoirs, "it really was the ones who stayed behind the real credit for the founding of the Little German Town should rest. For it was I who left them and returned to my homeland to spend the rest of my days scorned for failing the Palatines......." History has recorded the heroic and intricate deeds of Blackbeard's role in assuring the survival of many German and Swiss Palatine Families in the new country. They were left here to fend for themselves against hatred and political abuse without the aid of government or church to assist them. They lived in profound poverty, as indentured slaves for the greater part of thirty years without reason as to why ......... Yes, the Roosters got the story right on that Friday morning, November 22, 1718, even today you can hear the sobbing cries from Ocracoke Island's mainland as they continue to tell the sad story of the Pirate's death. ....... The futile cries of the Island's roosters mark the hidden era in North Carolina's history we never learned about in our North Carolina history class, only the whispers about the terrible deeds committed by the notorious Pirate Teache (Thatch, Titschke), Blackbeard, who once lived in New Bern. The Pirate, Titschke (Teache, Thatch), really did stand alone in preserving North Carolina's heritage and The Titschke's accomplishments truly lead to the State's authentic beginning. <> The Palatine or High German Chapel/Church of England (As Recorded in Craven County Deed Book No. 1, Page #417, August 2, 1740) Whereas we, the Subscribers, have agreed and concluded to build one house of Worship or Chapel on the Trent River in Craven County in the Province of.........The cost of which shall come out of one stock of cattle which a certain person among them hath willed and given for that purpose.... for the use of the Palatines and Germans. Now we the subscribers hereof have chosen and elected Jacob Sheets, John Kinsey and Peter Remm to build the said church or Chapel for the use of The High Germans and the Church of England ...........to be built on the South side of the Trent River at the Ferry location at John Kinsey's Plantation........said Chapel is to be thirty (30) feet long and twenty (20) feet wide by twelve (12) feet high..... the name of the same is to be called THE PALATINE CHURCH or the HIGH GERMAN CHAPEL ...... as witnessed our seals, this second (2nd) day of August, 1740: John Simons-Jacob Sheets-William Frank Christian Slobbock-George Snyder- John Letcher Miller-Peter Andrews John Kinsey-William Barn (Baren)- Jacob Fulch-Richard Re(i)mer-John Re(i)mer Michael Pickel-Danl. Fulch-Alexander Steel Michael Remnir-Christopher Slobbock, Sr. John Peter Remm-Matthew Resenover Casper Resshead-Vincent Ameat(h) George Coons-George Connegur Jacob Ipock <> Do you suppose we could be certified as true Native New Bernians or will the City and County fathers (Politicians) run us out of town for sharing the family's historic story???...the same story Blackbeard was telling through the emblematic message, "Queen Anne's Revenge. Yes, purely a coincidence of kinship, one of Blackbeard's Seventh Great Grandsons finally told the true story about his Seventh Great Grandfather, who really was the notorious Pirate, John Edward Teache (Titschke-John Edward Titshcke Thatch), alias, Blackbeard, who was a De Graffenreid Colonists. The writing reveals what happened to all the Palatine land purchased by Queen Anne to be distributed to the Palatine people desiring to relocate in the new world. This history is not the "predigested history" (De-Graffenried) or the sorted out variety designed for our general consumption. This is the real history, enjoy it. Three hundred years of wonderful, enlightening history even if it's somewhat distorted from the present day variety of New Bern's history. It is New Bern's true history, well documented with verifiable facts, abundantly available amongst the many historic archives in North Carolina and Craven-Pamlico-Carteret Regional Library-The State's finest Library, to whom we convey our appreciation for their extensive resources and dedicated assistance."
